1884 Plaza Grounds

Martin County Convent Board envisioned plans for a completed 1884 Plaza campus that captured the historic significance of the site as well as offered the community a beautiful place to gather and host important life events.   Based upon work completed by landscape architect Jason Hodges at Prairie Workshop, and archaeologist Michael Bradle at American Archaeology Group the completed campus includes the reconstruction of the original quadrangle which include the historic monastery building, Marienfeld Hall (original East Building) and Grelton Pavilion (original North Building), St. Joseph's Chapel (original St. Joseph's Catholic Church) and a beautiful fountain in the center of the plaza completes the quadrangle.

The Sisters of Mercy Garden sits proudly on the west side of the historic monastery and includes a stage, a vine-covered pergola, a windmill that is a replica of the original windmill with a water feature, and six lush, raised flowerbeds. Outdoor restrooms that are spacious and temperature-controlled are situated where the original bathhouse was located.

To complete the campus, plans are underway for east side landscaping that includes a vineyard and construction of a hospitality house in the Sisters of Mercy Garden

The Plaza can host historic tours, retreats, seminars, lectures, art exhibits, wine tastings, family reunions, celebrations, weddings, concerts, and holiday specials.
